Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House in Whitehall, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle and Gardens.

Whether you're interested in storytelling, learning more about visitor attraction sites and operations, sales or security, we have roles set in the most unique environments to go with your training.

We are opening our doors to a new apprenticeship programme that gives you the opportunity to learn all about professional front line customer service in a truly unique and magical environment.

You will be based at either Hampton Court Palace, HM Tower of London or Kensington Palace. You will gain a range of essential industry skills depending on the role you undertake in addition to studying towards a Customer Service Specialist Level 3 Apprenticeship with Lewisham Southwark College or the YMCA.

These roles will last for a period of 15 months, during which time you will have the opportunity to train and develop into an experienced member of the team with the hope of successfully securing a permanent role with us at the end of the programme.

Within all these roles you will provide a five star welcome and exceptional customer service to our visitors, ensuring a special and unique experience to each customer.

Our programme includes roles in the following locations;

Kensington Palace, W8 4PX

  • Warders/Explainers of the Historic State Apartments

Hampton Court Palace, KT8 9AU

  • Warders/Explainers of the Historic State Apartments
  • Admissions and Ticketing Operations Team

HM Tower of London, EC3N 4DR

  • Warding Team of the exhibition within the Jewel House
  • Admissions and Ticketing Operations Team
  • Retail Sales Operations Team

Dependant on the role, some of the other duties you will carry out will involve providing information on promotions and tours; help to tell palace stories; assist in selling tickets and guide books; deal with enquiries; help customers select retail purchases; take payment for goods and ensure the professional maintenance of our shop displays.

Closing date for applications 23rd June

Interviews along with the opportunity to visit the palace and find out more about the roles, will take place as follows;

Hampton Court Palace roles - 27th June

Tower of London Roles - 2nd July

Kensington Palace roles - between 28th and 5th July

First impressions count, so your natural warmth and enthusiasm for delighting the customer is crucial. An interest in History as well as experience in customer service and cash handling would be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be provided.
