Welcoming over five million visitors every year, we are financially self-sufficient and deliver our twin charitable aims of conservation and education with no public funding. Visitor experience lies at the heart of our work - explaining the site’s history and championing best practice in conservation and design. 

We have a track record of success and innovation and are award winners in building conservation including winning the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors London 2016 Project of the Year.  We have a reputation for self-reliance, innovation and high standards in everything we do but are not resting on our laurels – a culture of continuous improvement will always be critical in generating the change that is needed to meet new demands.  

We are now seeking a Head of Projects, reporting to the Director of Palaces and Collections and working alongside the Surveyor of the Fabric, Chief Curators and Head of Conservation and Collections Care. You will be an instrumental lead in shaping and delivering the major development projects that transform the sites in HRP’s care. Key responsibilities will be to lead the team in developing and maintaining the Strategic Projects Plan and delivering annual programmes of major projects which together deliver key strategic initiatives/ changes at each site.  

You will also be responsible for personally providing Project Sponsorship on selected projects, managing the client side of projects and providing the interface between project ownership and delivery. 


Along with project management expertise you will be expected to provide strong leadership within the Palaces and Collections Department and to the Projects team, so strong communication and coaching skills are essential to support the development and motivation of the professional and successful team of Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Project Support, acting as ambassador for their work.

The successful candidate will have a professional qualification in a construction discipline as well as extensive experience of managing and delivering major projects to meet exacting client requirements, cost, and quality and programme criteria in accordance with HRP strategic goals and objectives.   Experience in construction and design, procurement and contracting, statutory planning systems and grants and fundraising is required, as is senior stakeholder management where influencing and collaboration is key.
