Historic Royal Palaces are offering a 12-month Postdoctoral Research Fellowship to the value of £20,000 funded by the Rothschild Foundation Hanadiv Europe to conduct research into the Jewish History of the Tower during the medieval period. The Fellowship is designed for postdoctoral researchers who have already completed a PhD. The successful applicant will join HRP’s Research Team and be based at the Tower of London for 12 months commencing in January 2020.

Research undertaken during the Fellowship will be carried out in consultation with the Head of Research and in association with the Pears Institute for the Study of Anti-Semitism, Birkbeck, University of London. The Research Fellow will be expected to compile a catalogue of relevant archival evidence relating to the Jewish community of the Tower of London and City for the medieval period and produce a full dataset of all known members of the Jewish community either in sanctuary or held prisoner in the Tower in the Middle Ages. Successful applicants will also be expected to contribute to a new book on the diverse communities of the Tower of London and present their research at conferences and/or seminars on behalf of HRP.
