Historic Royal Palaces is the independent charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Kensington Palace, the Banqueting House, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle. We help everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society in some of the greatest palaces ever built. Hillsborough Castle is a working Royal Residence, the base for the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and a great place for the public to visit. In an exciting new development the operation of the Castle has been passed from the Northern Ireland Office to Historic Royal Palaces (HRP). Hillsborough Castle will continue to act as a Royal Residence but there will be considerable investment to increase public access, improve the visitor experience significantly and tell the stories of its fascinating history and glorious gardens. An essential part of this major development is the recruitment of a high calibre and highly professional team to transform Hillsborough Castle into a ‘must see’ destination.
We are looking to create a group of enthusiastic individuals to represent the Hillsborough Fort Guard at Hillsborough Castle. These roles will be provided with historical uniforms in which to be a distinctive presence for our visitors and provide both live interpretation and pageantry whilst supporting the delivery of a best in class visitor experience at Hillsborough Castle. We are currently recruiting to deliver a team of four individuals, a Fort Guard Sergeant Major, Bugler and two Corporals, and we envisage this team expanding in the future. They will deliver a unique welcome and interactive experience to our visitors in keeping with a Royal residence and ensuring Hillsborough Castle is represented to the public in the best way possible.
This is a really exciting time to join us. You will be joining us at the start of our journey to transform Hillsborough Castle’s visitor offer in April 2019.
To succeed you will need to be a proactive individual with an enthusiasm for engaging visitors in the history of Hillsborough Castle. You will have the demeanour and presence, that whilst in uniform, you create an impact and spectacle to be enjoyed by visitors. In addition, the Bugler will be able to provide a high standard of ceremonial bugling.
