£16,848 – 17,980 per annum pro-rata dependent on role (not including an additional shift disturbance for roles including a night shift)

The roles above will be expected to work 7 days a week (within a shift pattern) and the Warden role includes a night shift rota. There is the opportunity to join us fulfilling established full time hours or annualised part time hours.

We help everyone explore the story of how monarchs and people have shaped society in some of the greatest palaces ever built.


Hillsborough Castle is a working Royal Residence, the base for the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and a great place for the public to visit. In an exciting new development the operation of the Castle has been passed from the Northern Ireland Office to Historic Royal Palaces (HRP). Hillsborough Castle will continue to act as a Royal Residence but there will be considerable investment to increase public access, improve the visitor experience significantly and tell the stories of its fascinating history and glorious gardens. An essential part of this major development is the recruitment of a high calibre and highly professional team to transform Hillsborough Castle into a ‘must see’ destination.

We are recruiting to further build our Warden Team in preparation for April 2019. The team is made up of security and visitor focused individuals who look after the security integrity of our site, welcome visitors to our site and support all teams throughout the Castle in creating safe and distinguished experiences.

The roles within the team are Wardens & Search Wardens.  Essential to these roles are proven practical experience in a similar environment, being comfortable with outdoor work and a high level of physical activity, and demonstration of effective and engaging communication skills.  In addition, a high level of customer focus, a first aid qualification and a security qualification (eg SIA) would be of advantage, though not essential.
