We are a team of people who love and look after six of the most wonderful palaces in the world. We create space for spirits to stir and be stirred.

Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) is an independent, self-funded charity that looks after the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Banqueting House, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace and Hillsborough Castle and Gardens.

Hillsborough Castle and Gardens opened its doors to the public in April 2019 and launched the first ever schools programme, delivering spirit-stirring sessions for pupils from key stage 1 to A-Level.

The schools programme introduces pupils to the key stories, events and characters associated with Hillsborough Castle and enables pupils and teachers to access, connect and engage with the site’s past.

We are seeking to recruit school session presenters to deliver across the programme for primary, secondary and SEND schools.

With your expertise in delivering dynamic, engaging and interactive sessions outside the classroom, for school pupils of all ages, you will deliver a range of sessions; some in costume, and all utilising props, resources and handling collection items.

You will be adept at differentiating delivery to suit the needs of your audience, have experience facilitating sessions for pupils with additional needs and will be comfortable playing a character in role. You will be passionate about engaging young people with history and heritage and will be skilled at enabling them to find relevance and make connections to the past.

For this, you’ll need to have exceptional communication and people skills, be degree educated and have knowledge and experience of formal and informal learning in Northern Ireland. You will be flexible and adaptable, have an enthusiastic and engaging delivery style and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

Working patterns will vary but will likely include:

09:30 – 15:00

Occasional evening work to deliver Teacher Taster sessions (16:30 – 18:00) or help support the wider Public Engagement programme will be required.

If you think you have the enthusiasm, skills, and experience to join a team that delivers exceptional programmes, we would love to hear from you.
