Gardener - Student Placement - Hillsborough Castle

Join our enthusiastic team and help to maintain and develop the wonderful gardens of Hillsborough Castle. The grounds of Hillsborough have undergone major work in the past 8 years, to enhance their beauty and horticultural interest, and have been fully open to the public for the past 4 years. The gardens are varied and include formal areas with ornamental planting, topiary, lawns and park land, trees, herbaceous borders and a productive kitchen garden, woodland, lakes, and meadows. 

We are inviting applications from students currently studying on a recognised horticulture course, who require a placement as part of their studies. 

If you have a positive, proactive, and enthusiastic attitude then this is the role for you. Applicants for this role will be supporting the rest of the Gardens and Estates team, taking on a variety of different tasks. Working in a small team and with a keen eye for detail, you will have a passion for gardening and will be keen to gain experience working in prestigious gardens. You will have the opportunity to build on professional all-round knowledge of garden maintenance tasks, and gain an understanding of what it means to provide a 5-Star service to our visitors. 

The successful candidate will be team-focused and competent in using a range of horticultural machinery, for example hedge trimmers, lawn mowers, and strimmers. Applicants must be able to provide the highest level of garden and estate maintenance whilst maintaining a safe, clean, and secure working environment.
The availability to work weekends and Bank holidays is essential.
