The Interpretation & Design team is responsible for the creative direction of the visitor experience for Historic Royal Palaces, helping to provide the motivation for people to visit and re-visit our sites, surprising and delighting them once they are here. We do this through presenting historic spaces, exhibitions, artistic installations, and audio/digital guides.

We are recruiting for two interpretation manager posts at our London Palaces. You will contribute to driving forward our approach to award-winning and industry-leading experiences. One role will initially be based at Kensington Palace, leading our brilliant project team to re-present Queen Victoria’s apartments, creating an experience that will enable a multi-generational audience to step back in time and imagine the life of the young princess growing up here at Kensington. The other role will initially be based at the Tower of London, leading the development of a major new interpretation experience and leading the development of content for our brand new digital visitor guide.

We are looking for bright, ambitious creative professionals with an impressive background in the heritage or museums sector to join a team that delivers the best of ground-breaking interpretation and design in all its forms. You will have excellent design judgement, creative flair and an eye for detail. Understanding of interpretation and design within historic spaces and enthusiasm for working collaboratively with craftspeople, artists and unusual specialists is desirable.

Experience of leading multi-disciplinary teams, stakeholder management, management of complex projects and excellent budget management is a must. You must also be able to put the needs of the visitor first and to think laterally and strategically about how best practice interpretation can create truly exciting experiences that convey the stories of the palaces to our audiences. And above all, you must take internal and external stakeholders on this journey with you.

Historic Royal Palaces is an equal opportunities employer and truly values a diverse workforce.  Applications are welcome from candidates regardless of their background.
