Historic Royal Palaces, with the generous support of The Clothworkers' Foundation, is offering three one-year tapestry conservation internships from 2016-2019. The third placement is due to start in late September 2018, with interviews held on 9th August at Hampton Court Palace.

Based at Hampton Court Palace, the Intern will obtain critical insight and practical hands-on treatment skills as they work alongside some of the country's leading textile conservation specialists in HRP's long established conservation studios. Working in this unique environment, the interns will also gain insight into preventive conservation and conservation science as applied to tapestries as well as the related project management processes. Successful applicants will be expected to be proactive in contributing to HRP’s communication activities that explain and promote our conservation work.

The placement will be managed through a framework based on conservation professional standards. Interns will benefit from guidance and supervision from PACR-accredited studio supervisors and regular mentoring from the treatment conservation manager who will monitor progress and measure achievement during their high level learning experience.

Applicants must be recent textile conservation graduates who are passionate about embarking on a career in the sector. You must be good at working in a team, and keen to learn about this specialist area of tapestry conservation in order to build on your practical skills. Please note that the role requires frequent working at heights.

As indicated above, we particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) candidates as these groups are currently under represented in our work force.

So whatever your background, if you have the skills, knowledge and attitude we are looking for we would love to hear from you.
